I hear you Tadman ... I came back up north in DEC 2010 and explored the option of a new car purchase from a dealership in Skokie. Needless to say I spent a few hrs lingering around the yellow line for a few pictures of the 3200s, too bad the weather was crappy. But Ive never been able to catch ( or ...

Very interesting sighting Tadman, I also heard of this type of rumors a decade ago, and pretty much left it at that, a no holds water rumor. However with the brown line now accommodating 8 car trains and longer late night hours I could actually visualize a possible 24 hr run for A combined orange/br...

I'm on Acela 2253, waiting to depart Boston for Newark, NJ as I write this, using the Amtrak WiFi. Attended the annual Boskone SF & Science convention. Would I pay extra for WiFi? Probably not. Is it an added incentive? Yes. Would I use WiFi? Probably to check e-mail and Railroad Net. ;-) Ken I...

I disagree that the lack of WiFi is really hurting ridership. Not everyone brings their laptops with them. In fact more people are probably on their phones if anything. That said though, WiFi probably helps increase ridership when it's available. Everyone loves free internet, even if they are alrea...

] I have to wonder if the money would be better spent on the next-gen HST, or lobbying the FRA to allow something sensible like purchasing some off the shelf X-2000's or something. I would have agreed with you on a procurement for off the shelf x-2000 until I had a look at the damage that entailed ...

Interesting tid bits about the valpo I only got to see it a handful of times myself and never got to photo capture it. Looking at the prices posted to keep the service I ask if anyone knows knows the details why NICTD estimated 1.5 million to run the valpo VS. the 2.5 amtrak wanted? Was the differen...

Interesting topic I never got to see or ride the SWS with NW equipment so I love the pictures posted here and on the net. I do remember years ago (ok decades, were talking MId 90s) I was out for a stroll between ashburn and wrightwood and noticed something rather peculiar, a SWS Metra with a F40 on ...

I found a similar story on this guy today as well and to answer your question before today I never knew this guy existed ether. Sadly to me it similar to appointing a CEO to an airline that will never get a plane of the ground, at least in his lifetime. http://www.philly.com/philly/business/homepage...

Nice catch rather odd to see vents on the side in such a manner... My guess is as good as yours, ur proudly right, Option1: some type of mod equal to winterization. VIA is pretty inventive, OK more like MacGyver when it comes to modding there fleet of equipment. Or option 2 seeing as how its only on...

Hello Mactraxx , the Wrightwood /Ashburn neighborhood was my old stomping grounds. back in the 90s and early 2000 I lived on 79th & Washtenaw. As Doepack stated the station was in the 12/20/04 schedule but actually opened for service a month or so before that. I remember that new station being o...
