JWHITE: I do not think that there is a expiration date for farecards. I remember that Pay-per-ride was always valid as long as there was money value on it. One thing that you can do is go to a farecard machine and use the 'TRADE-IN' feature and check for money value - or go to a friendly station att...

Guys: Which stations on the PATH accept Metrocard other than World Trade Center MEMORIAL (my name for it) and Hoboken? I would like to know so I can plan accordingly. MACTRAXX

Guys: GREAT IDEA!! I think that thru service to Wilmington would work fine - I think that DelDot would be responsive to expanded service to Newark,Churchmans Crossing and Wilmington. If they are scheduled correctly, transfers to SEPTA regional rail would work fine. I noticed that DelDot is more recep...

In the GO TRANSIT posts I put forth a proposal that I was thinking about for a long time: GO taking over the operation on the Niagara Falls line W/service expansion? The Maple Leaf to NYC would remain as is. GO would expand service and institute new stations. One thing that I did not mention in the ...

Skokie Swift: Limited Thru Rush Hour Service

Guys: My name is MACTRAXX and I am new to RR.NET. I have been interested in CTA operations since the 70s. I always liked the operation of the Skokie Swift - Now with the removal of catenary lines is there a market for thru operation to the LOOP? I can picture the CTA having a printed timetable clear...

Guys: From Chicago-L.org - which I personally think is a great site - I noticed that what you all mentioned - ordering new cars. The CTA would probably like to retire all the 22 and 24 hundred series cars from the 70s. How long do you all speculate they have left? You guys are right-"bowling al...

Guys: How soon do people forget! Back before the days of OPTO,the CTA had - what my uncle(a CTA motorman) called the "nickel" seat - the single seat right opposite the cab next to the front window. there was a two-person traverse seat behind it facing towards the window. three buffs could ...

F40c: I agree with you. What you said about the color names is right on. The CTA should re-institute the A/B skip stops for the rush hours-it makes sense. The Market-Frankford line in Philadelphia does this - it helps speed things along. Thanks - MACTRAXX

Mike F and Byte: Thanks for the replies. I did not visit Chicago hardly at all in the 90s. In fact,I did not set foot in Downtown Chicago from NOV 89 to the early part of 2000 and I only visited the SW side and S suburbs maybe three times the entire decade of the 90s. I kept track on Chicago rail th...

Guys: My name is MACTRAXX and I am new to RR.Net. My uncle was a CTA motorman from 1958 to 1986 and I visited Chicago on a regular basis from 1973 to 1988. My uncle retired in 1986. I became interested in the CTA and its operations. I got quite used to the route names and lines. I remember that the ...

Should GO take over Niagara Falls-Toronto service?

Guys: My name is MACTRAXX and I am new to RR.net. I have traveled alot by train and one of my favorite cities is Toronto. I traveled up there alot in the 80s and I took the NFS-TOR day RT last in 1998. From what I know about VIA and GO and Southern Ontario geography, I think that GO should take over...

Guys: Mu name is MACTRAXX. I am no stranger to the CTA - My uncle was a motorman with CTA from 1958 to 1986. I used to visit Chicago on a somewhat regular basis between 1973 to 1988. I remember my uncle schooling me on the CTA and its operations - including the third rail. I remember the name for th...

Tom: Glad to hear about 9001-2. I found a color brochure in our LIRR ephemera file here at NRHS called "Introducing The Metropolitan" - On the cover is a good picture of car 9002. It is obviously taken at the Budd plant - a new(at the time) Metroliner car is visible in the background. In t...

Tom,Em and all: Thanks for the info - Are 9609-10 still around? This pair has blue stripes and is the last pair with the Gabreski-era WE SERVE WITH PRIDE still on them. Also car 9204 still has this too. I remember that it was separated from its mate for a time. I also remember noting that 9755-6 are...

BOB: It seems to me that MNCR has a better repore with the rail fan community than the LIRR. The 1100 MNCR trip was like a railfan "Family gathering" to me. MNCR has that great Croton Shop open house each year - I have been to Hillside once on a NRHS trip - LI Sunrise Trail Chapter tour ba...
