Re: North Carolina NCDOT-Amtrak Carolinian Service

It seems that the real value of the line from Asheville to Salisbury would be a scenic line for the tourist trade, something for a Rocky Mountaineer type of operator. It would operate in the fall when the leaves change and in the summer for vacationers and those going to the many conference centers,...

When the new Charlotte station is finished, what will become of the existing station? How large of a servicing yard and other facilities there will be?

Re: Amtrak Profit Center- Auto Train

Does Amtrak reinvest the operating surplus revenue of Auto Train back into AT? I would hope that they would so that this service would be a top-of-the-line type service that results in a steady money maker.

I don't think the RF@P situation would not necessarily have been a game changer since Auto Train started near the same time. SCL simply would have been "grandfathered" in.

Two other carriers, Santa Fe and Seaboard Coast Line may have continued if they were allowed to shed some lesser patronized trains. SCL would have been permitted to drop the Gulf Coast Special and the Everglades as well as the Palmland. Santa Fe could have been allowed to cut one or two and keep the...

Having ridden pre-Amtrak trains, I can appreciate the improvements Amtrak has made. The basic problem remains is as long as Amtrak remains just another federal bureaucracy, you will lack a proactive way of operating that you see in, for example, Brightline. If Amtrak can shake off bureaucratic think...

I don't know if it was mentioned anywhere else, but are these trainsets semi permanently coupled or conventional or some combination thereof?

It would be interesting to see if Amtrak plans to run corridor style services between Miami and Tampa and possibly other places. If that develops, those trains will use the new Miami station at the airport and let the long-distance trains continue with the current facility .

Looking at the maps, who will be managing and dispatching the DRPT tracks? Are they still planning on having two tracks on either side of Main St. Station?

I am curious if it would work to combine a Hiawatha train out of Milwaukee with a Lincoln service one to St. Louis and the remaining Missouri train on to KC. That way the state subsidy could be borne by the three states through which this train would run. could such a service gain ridership? You wou...

Instead of corridor trains originating/terminating in Atlanta, I recall on the ConnectUS map Amtrak put out it showed these proposed trains ending in Birmingham. If they have the space to turn and service trains and add/drop cars, why fool with Atlanta as a terminating point other than a larger and ...

I wonder if this would be the time to hand off the NEC services to Ameristar Rail as a public private partnership type business model eventually including the state sponsored services and leave Amtrak with the long-distance routes to worry about. Amtrak will still be the manager and dispatcher of th...

On a related topic, we have all heard by now that republican Glenn Youngkin has won the Virginia governors race. Since passenger rail has been a bipartisan affair in VA, what are Mr. Youngkin's views on this topic? Will he continue with the bipartisan course or will he seek a different path?

Concerning the Viewliner I sleepers: From what I have read these were to be overhauled once the VII cars were delivered. Is this still the plan? If so, would Beech Grove do the work or will they be sent to CAF for rebuilding?
