Happened to be at an event in Chatham last night for the first time. Got to see the old switch and lead for the northern end of the Harlem line. Was curious if CSX has any business in the old Chatham yard. I saw acouple of siding tracks on the southside and one track on the northside of the main lin...

The CSX local is still out of Kingston yard. The train symbol is C711. It operates as far south on the River line as Orangeburg and north to Selkirk yard. And as I'm very happy for the Catskill Mountain railroad, wouldn't it be easier to go several hundred feet south and transload onto the two sidin...

Was driving through Newburgh today and observed CSX local C711 serving Rays rail materials. Power was a SD40-3 (engine 4040). Was surprised to see a 6 axle engine on the Newburgh Industrial due to seeing an old timetable showing 6 axle engines being prohibited on the line. C711 pulled out 17 gondola...

Greg, thanks for the quick response... So, then I assume that the local no longer goes onto the Hudson line unless its to retrieve an outlawed Q701 in Croton or Beacon. When it does so, what train symbol does it run as? Makes sense for Q704 to make the drop in Chelsea instead of running a local 60 p...

Just saw on another sight that Q430 and Q431 have been abolished. I haven't been able to get trackside and follow this line much in the past few years so, just as a refresher... There are now only one southbound (Q701) and one northbound (Q704) that runs daily. If they have an extra train or rail tr...

Track in Riverdale section of the Bronx

Had noticed this track while traveling into the city several months ago, and then remembered it when I saw this picture. Was wondering what the history of the track on the far left is. When was it in service. Did it serve both passenger and freight and if it's out of service, when did it go out. Any...

Was watching the town of East Fishkill Board meeting on Television from last week and they had advised that MTA had gone to the town in the beginning of the month and confirm that they were going to be putting in a rail trail along the beacon line and that it would be starting in the beginning of 20...

Long trains on the River sub. At 20:45 on 10/21/2017 I heard a train with 700 axles cross the EDD at mp 38.5. That's about the longest one I've heard so far. I'll be able to get its symbol as soon as it gets a bit farther south when I can hear the train. Seem to be lots of long trains on the RL lat...

They do have all the freight business out of Campbell Hall and Hudson Secondary (Campbell Hall Cluster). They do operate on a small section of the tier to get onto the secondary. Don't see NS giving up all that traffic up to Campbell hall. Would be nice, and maybe more possible to see MNJ pick up th...

The track you are referring to is the Newburgh Industrial track (ex-Erie newburgh branch). I was by there today. The lines only active freight customer is Ray's railroad materials. I'm drawing a blank on the road name but right near the New Windsor / Newburgh line. I usually drive by when I go fan t...

It would make more sense for them to switch out Chelsea lumber going north as all they have to do is break away and shove back at the switch. Makes even more sense for the B749 to not have to make the 40 plus extra mile round trip going north after servicing Burnwell in Peekskill especially since th...

Don't know if it means much but, this past Wednesday afternoon I observed a Sperry hi-rail van inspecting the Maybrook line up to the state line. Once it hit the state line at milepost marker 41 it reversed back toward Danbury. I had previously posted under the Metro North forum that I had spoke to ...

Rockingham Racer wrote:What's an I-163 please?
I assume it's an alternate schedule, (kinda like an L prefix) to the Q-163 (Newark to Chicago Intermodal).
From what I heard that was the first northbound through, followed by southbounds Q-009, K-408, Q-433, K-702, L-162, Q-010, Q-008, Q-389 and L-004.

As of now (1930 hours), listening to the scanner, there is a engine pulling more cars up from the scene. Engine is CSX 4076 (SD40-3). Came out of the old Roseton power plant siding at CP63 and headed down to grab more cars. Train is still symboled as Q-409-07. They are advising that they are going t...
