Any idea why they severed the second track at numerous grade crossings rather than just leaving the inactive track in place? Does that change its classification in some way or otherwise reduce costs?

Who would've predicted that after decades of building TGVs and Pendolinos in Europe, Alstom would have such a hard time combining the two into a single product, even if it is a new iteration of the long established TGV family? Is it a case of US assembly being not up to par? (Much like my Lafayette,...
I think the idea is that only the “core” trainset is fixed. Additional coach and sleeping cars would be able to be attached to the endpoints of the core trainset via standard couplers like for the Auto Train. I would hope so. I remember when the semi-fixed nature of the Turboliners was a point of c...

So it looks like Brightline has stopped taking reservations, putting the Sept 1 launch date in doubt. I had my suspicions that delays might be likely, and I'm looking to try to ride the full route soon after they open so I'll be keeping an eye out for any definitive news.
I'd be curious to know if the heat and humidity that the Mid-Atlantic region has been dealing with for the past several weeks has disrupted the Avelia Liberty testing to any great extent. They don't seem to be testing them at all and haven't been for some time. Every now and then they'll take a set...
So are these things still being built?
I hope the fact that deliveries are continuing signals confidence in resolving the outstanding issues. Regarding LGVs in France, I would note that the TGV operates on legacy lines as well, though I believe none at greater than 200 or 220 km/hr, vs the 260 km/hr that Acela II will achieve on the fast...
Caught this picking up the empties by the T Thomas Fortune House in Red Bank this afternoon. Crossing gates were inoperative and the crossing was flagged.

Actually, looking at the tracker I think it may be from Joliet all the way down to Carlinville.
I believe it is between Joliet and Bloomington, with more to follow eventually. The Texas Eagle is cruising along south of Joliet right now!
Per the new timetable taking effect May 3, 2023, top speed is going up to 110 mph on a portion of the Chicago - St Louis corridor. Took long enough, but with 90 mph already being achieved on most of the route, all of the investment is finally producing some results!
An Amfleet would be much more appealing for a ride from, say, NYP to Montauk than LIRR's normal rolling stock. But it's hard for me to see them lasting much longer in mainline service so I'd expect to see a few scattered about going to private owners like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7bMgq...

That may have just made a travel decision for me.
