Mr. Scratchy, without pulling this discussion too far off-topic, let's ask the question "If going by train from Miami to West Palm, who would you prefer to ride - Amtrak or Brightline"? I don't think Amtrak would get too many votes. What if you change that to "Miami to Orlando"?...

Mr. Approach, Google says more like 10hrs (29 miles) CHI-NPV. Not the same train then. Theres a lot more than one train that leaves chicago, the specific train the first stop would take 4 hours to walk to. I forget which one it was, it might have been an Illinois state train. It doesnt matter to me...

Ill tell you what, that FB group does a great job at tracking it. Esp stuff out of chicago. One day a train was 4 hours late because of a charger, and somebody jokingly said "i could have walked to the first station in 4 hours!" sure enough, if you googled the first stop from chicago, walk...

Ill assure all of you, that ALL of the Siemens locomotives have the same issues, regardless of who owns them or who maintains them. They all pretty much have the same stuff, save the Cali units probably not having cab signals and only having I-ETMS. They seem to be OK in short haul, commuter service...

The first 10 bodyshells were fabricated in Germany while the Sacramento plant was being tooled up. Final fit and assembly of 602- up was at sacramento, bodyshells 609-670 were made in Sacarmento. I know the person who designed the body shell structure at the german plant, and personally did some of ...

Im not sure how much that holds true, buy america for sure but the 600 and 601 were completely built, assembled and initially tested in Munich Germany where Siemens is headquartered. The SIBAS 32 locomotive main computer system is off the shelf from germany, the software initially was as well, but h...

The Lake Shore is Amtraks Hot Potato. SSYD puts a work order in on car going to chicago because they have the parts. Car comes back 2 days later, not fixed. Electric locomotives are a hot potato for amtrak NY and DC. NY doesnt have a shop that can really do much of the work. It fits 2 engines at a t...

LMAO yea ok. Laughing here in all the failed GE Tier 4 prime movers, and warranty claims. Do you know why GE sold the locomotive business? Ill give you one guess. It wasnt because it was making too much money and they sold it to make some huge profit. Siemens controls the entire parts chain for the ...

No, they also allowed the MCB to close. As i mentioned above the pans were spring raised.

I dont believe they use CAN in the ACS and ALC locomotives. I absolutely know they use Ethernet. All nodes are connected via ethernet jacks, and when we plug a laptop in to the loco to service it, its not done via a Serial Gateway like CAN (My backround is network engineering, and i tinker with CAN ...

To do any reconfiguring of the pantograph, you have to lower whatever ones are raised, and then you can raise them in whatever configuration you want. Its, stupid. They can’t seem to figure out the car wash mode either…. Car wash mode has been broken since Version 11. They dont know that though. A ...

Mr ApproachMedium, Can Amtrak say to Siemens that all those updates are done, and now they are required to start from scratch and if the motors don't work together they will issues fines...and maybe replace de bus I/O for an analog version? That would require an entire re-start of onboard CCU softw...
