The Polish trains that I rode were quite good, on a par with other similar European trains. Most of the trains I rode were international ones, so I am really not sure whose cars I was on at any given time. Coming into Warsaw from the Czech Republic, that is from the southwest, the line was being com...

While traveling from Poland to Kaunas I also noticed a rather large, but under-used, intermodal terminal at Sestokai, just north of the border. I have discovered that this is to be part of a new route called "Amber Train", which had its first trial trip on April 20th this year. http://www....

When I rode on the rail explorers trips in the Adirondacks I rode with a guide who did most of the peddling. I have arthritis and wasn't at all sure that I could keep up on my own. Riding with a guide also let me have the benefit of his knowledge of the area. It made the experience more enjoyable.

There is good train service from Austria to Slovenia and on to Croatia. Both Slovenia and Croatia have good service also to Hungary. I traveled from Zurich via Innsbruck to Zagreb, then to Budapest last year with no trouble. Passports were checked at the Croatian borders since that country was not p...

I would think that a rail line to the UAE would have a lot of potential. It is on the map but just as a back burner project, it would seem.

I used this line between Hamburg and Copenhagen twice recently. Last year, the train rode on the ferry, although passengers had to be off the train while on the ferry. This year in late April, I rode a train from Copenhagen south to Orehoved, just south of a long bridge. We had to get on a bus to Ro...

While in Beacon, NY on MN's Hudson line on Thurs June 14th, I saw a most unusual Amtrak train. It was a "push and pull" train. A Maryland MARC car (#1753 I think) was leading, followed by Amtrak engine #710, followed by several Amfleet cars. This was southbound past Beacon about 1:05 PM. I...

I can't say for sure about the length of trains. However I remember reading that it formed an important connection for the Maine Central's Mountain division for many years. That bridge line routing was most of their traffic. Not much local business.

I was in Warwick on Fri. Feb. 16th at 10:30 am when M&NJ (East Penn) #1800 came into town with 12 tank cars and 3 others. Possibly some of the tank cars might have been for Jones Chemical, but probably most were propane cars.
