A question from another railfan off a Telegram group I'm in was wondering what happens to accident-involved engines. I know the first ALC-42/Charger got wrecked last year, and the P40 involved in the recent Colorado wreck looks in sad shape. Does Amtrak rebuild these? My OJTI knew the history of al...

The ADIRONDACK and MAPLE LEAF generally change power at Albany-Rensselaer because the Canadians are not qualified to maintain the dual mode P32AC-DMs. Andy Sorry Andy I personally have run 700s to Montreal and have seen them go through on AMT63. The only things that get done in Canada are brake tes...

Once it starts and I have an hour or so of free time. I also have a good friend who is a operator on LAB I'm sure he will take photos. Now onto something that struck me as odd, everybody has wanted this building gone like yesterday, Redfern comes in gets a sweet deal on it, looks at it and says nah ...

Messrs. Dunville and Junkie, my idea of "yard work" is reaching for the checkbook, writing out a "mid-four figure" check, and getting ready for the screams from my "envirofreak" neighbor ("can't you just tell those people to not use fertilizer and Roundup on your ...

Man I had a yard assingment yesterday and my back is still killing me. We moved to some acreage down south and lots of work to maintain. GBN if you're up for some leaf burning, come on down and I'll make you some good southern cooking. Does your MILW pass still work on the Amtrak system? Maybe when...

As in doing your yard work at home????? :-D :-D
Give the wife a chance she is compiling a list for once the snow melts. :-D

These will be six car train sets on the regional Empire Service trains. Siemens diesel locomotive, 1 chair car with batteries instead of pantograph, 4 chair cars, and 1 chair car with cab. These trains will not have to be turned around because they will have cabs on both ends. Which chair car will ...

Albany Times-Union reports developers have given up the idea of attempting any new use of the building and will tear it down. The cost will be in the millions and there may still be some considerable time before work commences, so Mr. Railjunkie will no doubt have many more good looks at the nettin...

Then those units can be reversed at NYP to allow for thru Albany <> NYP <> Wash trains. As an extreme unlikely example try operating on 280's schedule to NYP with it becoming the Crescent on to NOL. Finally, a thru train from NY state thru Carolinas, GA, & NOL. That could be an option..... How ...

I hope that rumor is correct. The battery - diesel IMO was a poor idea. It was almost an attempt for NY state to get Amtrak back into GCT in the future, The diesel = electric will be much more useful in the future if the west side line starts getting CAT extended north from NYP. They will give the ...

A couple of things, first IF the Empire Service sees a dual mode Charger within the next 5 years I would be shocked. Second third rail and catenary extend a couple hundred feet past the home signal for CP Empire which is the start of the Empire tunnel. Why we need battery cars and this extra over en...

Not to be a Debbie Downer but have we all forgotten that it took 14 attempts to get the equipment to pass. Does that not bother anyone?? Is that not like taking a square peg and just hitting it with a bigger hammer until it fits into the round hole. Maybe it is just me... It means that there was a ...

Your talking about "HAL" needing 14 tries to pass the test. The computer[s] on these things run the entire show from the wheels up to the wire. If it needed 14 attempts there had to be bugs that were patched yet again to make the system pass. No issue with that?? What makes anyone think on...

Four tracks versus two on a curve a inch or two of water over the rail with a Hudson is going to be treated way different than with a dual mode. Plus it just seems like the amount of water flowing into the river is different these days. Way more development along the river and perhaps not as much c...
