Yeah, with the trains running on the same schedule 7 days per week, the first departure from North Station (8:50 am) makes the train viable for day trips to Portland. The weekend schedule from 2019 had the first Sat/Sun/Hol train departing almost 1 hour later, and in that case we would bypass the tr...

That's too bad about there sub-forums, they are/were a great idea.

There are many topics to discuss about corridor services that are very different from LD services, and the sub-forums served a great purpose.

So sad that some people can't can't handle any change.

Covered by the NY Post as well. https://nypost.com/2021/04/19/lirr-to-test-north-americas-first-battery-powered-trains/ Some trains could be equipped with batteries as soon as next year, after an initial feasibility study. Eng said the tech would also enable single-seat rides into New York City by e...

EDIT: Also, from the article above, B and C will both now terminate at Gov't Center!

Yeah !, ever since Govt Center was rebuilt, and the turning loop there rehabbed, it may ZERO sense not to have all B trolleys run to and from Govt Center.

just do not see going to Rockland all year, and there's no indication that I know of that says it will be a summer seasonal service, as was the recent plan. Did I miss something? [There's a reason why lots of motels close up there from November to the end of May.] Rockland service should be year rou...

Just to clarify, in the final years of pre-Aldene Plan service (1960 to April 30th 1967) CNJ trains that operated on the NY & LB to and from Bay Head operated via the Chemical Cost line (or Mosquito Line as it was well known) from Woodbridge to Elizabethport where they made a station stop along ...

As many have stated the proposals to restore service on the line go way back. In fact one of the last trains to operate on the NJ portion of the cutoff was an Amtrak inspection train in the late 1970's. Here is an article from 2016. https://www.poconorecord.com/article/20160517/NEWS/160519600 and 20...

Stumbled upon this story from last year. Next to the NX Bascule Bridge, a/k/a The Annie Bridge, the next most well known abandoned Bascule Bridge would be the Crook Point Bridge a/k/a/ The Stuck Up Bridge in Rhode Island. RI has appropriated funds to demolish their bridge in the next few year, and t...

A major reason why all lines were maintained after the take over by New York State is that the services are funded my additional taxes levied in the counties served by commuter rail. If services east of Speonk, and Ronkonkoma were not continued you would have had demands that the affected towns be r...

That would be one beyond complicated rail trail to put together. You have (2) ancient movable bridges, WR & DB that were in barely usable condition when NJ Transit still used the line. I can only imagine the push back from Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Belleville and Kearny. Given the investment neede...

Any word on how The Cape Flyer has been doing, ridership wise, this season ? The Cape and The Islands have been having a banner season since the 4th of July Weekend, in part due to many rediscovering the Cape, since at this point Maine still does not want those of us from Massachusetts visiting.
