For Southern New England, Friday is going to be a mess, after rain and warmer temperatures on Thursday, it will 'turn much colder starting early Friday morning, with a mix of sleet, freezing rain, and some snow. https://www.boston.com/weather/weather/2022/02/02/new-england-has-more-wintry-weather-on...

Here are the cancellations for 1/29. Amtrak has published its cancellations/modifications due to the 1/29 winter storm. I was supposed to take the Cardinal eastbound yesterday but canceled because of the weather. My would-be return flights have already been canceled with no alternatives unless I got...

The snow storm in Greater Boston has been upgraded with a Blizzard Warning now in place for the weekend. The heaviest snow is predicted to be following a path hugging the Route 95/NEC Corridor. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/01/26/metro/maps-an-early-look-how-much-snow-expect-upcoming-winter-storm/

Nothing posted from Amtrak yet, but we are due to get a substantial storm on Saturday from early am through Saturday evening in Greater Boston. The present track shows the greatest snow totals in eastern Mass (NOT the Cape, or Islands), with a foot to a foot and a half expected. The high winds forec...

Has SEPTA announced a start date for service to and from the new Wawa/Middletown station ?
The only official statements that I could find kept saying "late 2021", well today is about as late in 2021 as you can get.

It has been reported by passengers with upcoming reservations that a number of trains have been cancelled over the New Years weekend across the Amtrak system. Ian, a reporter with the Washington Post, did some investigating, and here you go. https://www.washingtonpost.com/transportation/2021/12/30/a...

Here are some details on the Concord, NH service that ran from January 28th, 1980 to March 1, 1981. In 1973, the MBTA bought the Lowell line, along with the Haverhill and all other local Greater Boston passenger lines. Along with the sale, the B&M contracted to run the passenger service on the L...

Here is a video of the Newark Branch taken late last year, and is the basis for the book on the subject.
It provides a very real glimpse of what has happened to the ROW, and what goes on there as well.

A great gift idea for fans of the Newark Branch, this paperback was created by the same person who took the video Walking The Lower Boonton Line. There is a section of the Newark branch that was leased to local industry on the Bellville-Newark line, just as a section of the Lower Boonton Line was le...

WR is and has been in pretty bad shape for a long time now. Freight Trains stopped using it effective with "Conrail Day" (4/1/1976), and in the final years of commuter service the bridge was used on an exception basis as the structure was considered in condemned status, commuters train had...

Here's a unique set of sorts.

Four engines of different vintages came down Grand Junction yesterday 11/7/21.

I caught this while walking to the Kendall Square Cinema, the quartet of engines crossed Cardinal Medeiros Avenue, and then held up for a bit.

Having Amtrak's Northeast Regional stop at Secaucus Junction would be a no brainer, and a win, win for all. First the station is no where near Metro Park, and Secaucus is much easier to reach than Newark Penn, as SEC is right off Turnpike Exit 15X. Further a few years after the station opened, Ediso...
