Re: Unfinished Railroads of New York State

North of Telephone Road is definitely the RN&P. I went back and looked at the aerial photos of that area, and there's nothing that can be seen that could possibly be interpreted as a railroad grade at Telephone Road. And I'm pretty sure that I drove along Telephone Road but never saw anything. This...

Re: Unfinished Railroads of New York State

Well that's interesting. I could never find any visible trace of the Rochester, Nunda and Pennsylvania RR alongside of Macintyre Road. Nor do aerial photos show anything there, but this LIDAR map shows something faintly, I assume either because it is deeply buried or the graded road bed has been dis...

For anyone reading along, there was a long thread here in this forum, with lots of great information, about the Marion Steam Shovel.

I can't see the photos. There is a graphic saying that Photobucket won't allow 3rd party hosting. Is it just me? I can see other people's photos in other threads ...

Re: What ROW is this in Pittsford ( Rochester)

Kachler's book "THE SNOWFLAKER" also mentions these cars. "The fish were carp, kept fresh in cold water and areated from pipes in the bottom of the tanks. They were from Lake Erie and were transported regularly to New York City for the fish markets." He states the tanks had cakes of ice in them so ...

Re: What is being built here? Belfast, NY

There is still an abutment on the west side of the spot where the Google maps shot was taken, and up that hill a ways. Here is a photo showing that abutment, although greatly obscured by the trees. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3195/3150560433_79d38da812_z.jpg DSC_5939 by Paige Miller , on Flickr a...

Re: History of Hamburg Street Yard, Buffalo

I'm actually a little surprised they're not storing cars in there, it seems like it would be a reasonable place for it. As I walked around, I wondered why the rails were still in place, the switch really could easily be restored to working condition, but even so the yard is in terrible shape, rails...

History of Hamburg Street Yard, Buffalo

I'd be interested in learning more about the Hamburg Street Yard in Buffalo. I assume it was originally part of the Erie Railroad, and then Conrail and eventually CSX took ownership. But any further information would be appreciated, including date of creation and date of abandonment. I recently walk...
