• What was the right of way northeast of Arno, Indiana?

  • Pertaining to all railroading subjects, past and present, in the American Midwest, including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Kansas. For questions specific to a railroad company, please seek the appropriate forum.

On topos and aerials an abandoned grade can be seen northeast of Arno, Indiana. It appears to begin just west of Arno at a junction with the Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Eastern, and can be followed to at least this point near Danville. I can't find any map that shows it as a complete line. Was this a THI&E cutoff that was never finished?

From the National Register of Historic Places (for the Amo, IN THi&E depot)
"The original plan had been from Indianapolis to
Amo then Danville and back to Brazil and Terre Haute. They even had the
right-of-way purchased, the grade built, concrete structures laid, part
of the track on grade,
but there was just too much winding around so it
was abandoned in favor of the direct line from Plainfield to Terre
Haute via Cartersburg, Clayton, Amo, Coatesville, Fillmore, Greencastle
and onto Terre Haute."
“Says Both Lines are to be Built: Plainfield and Danville Lines are to
meet in Amo.” Friday Caller (April 26, 1907)

Wow, that is an 'm', not 'rn'. Anyway, thanks for that. The order seems wrong (it would be Indy-Danville-Amo) but otherwise it makes sense.
