They've come up with a way to save three steam engines that have been parked at the back of a scrap yard in Roanoke. They'll be salvaged from the salvage yard without any money changing hands. "So this is really the only way they would end up not being scrapped, by having a bartering deal with these multiple parties, so everybody gets something that benefits them," said Transportation Museum Director Bev Fitzpatrick.
.......

1151 will go to VMT, 1118 likely to Will Harris and 1134 to Portsmouth.

Fund raising on the site goes for the rail preservation efforts which has involved the lost engines and more.

Looks like 917 had already moved:

Norfolk & Western W2 class 2-8-0 no. 917 (temporarily an 0-8-0 with parts removed for weight and height clearance) was loaded onto a truck on July 8, 2008, for delivery to her new home in Bellville, Ohio. New owner Terry Byrne plans to make her part of a railroad-themed restaurant, including a 1926 baggage car and 1940 caboose already on his property in Bellville.

1118 and 1134 will go to Goshen first for initial restoration work, then 1134 (presumed) will go to Portsmouth.

The most critical issue with the engines as they are is rollability as friction bearing surfaces are rusted/rusty, because the boilers are getting separated, that makes the running gear very accessible for repair.

Portsmouth where?
Is 917 going to get its guide wheels back?
And are there any plans for the CW Baldwin diesels?

one diesel is going to the VMT, the VMT might scrap the other. Not what the WVRPS wants to see.
