Apologies for seeming to harp on EL accidents, but in this case I'm trying to pin down a 40+ year old memory: can someone tell me the circumstances of a (seemingly) major derailment of an EL freight at the Rt. 39 crossing in Castile, NY, happening in the spring of about 1966? I drove through the scene with my family on a Saturday and it was very odd: freight cars and cargo scattered everywhere, the track and Rt. 39 cleared but no visible cleanup activity--no people present at the scene at all. I even took a few slides which (unfortunately) were too overexposed to show much. Haven't come up with anything on Google. Thanks!
