While driving back from Connecticut last weekend I noticed an MBTA work locomotive from the highway in Hartford, CT ( I beleive we were on 91 at the time). The paint was very faded, and the Side was missing most of its lettering, but it was obvious that at some point it said MBTA on the side. The number was 905 (I think).

I'm curious as to why that unit is there, who owns it now, when did the MBTA get rid of it? Any information is appreciated.

Thank You.

Ex MBTA 905,
Ex SEMTA
Ex New Haven 1229

Taking one look at 902 and ex "old" 904 you'll see that the MBTA got a few locomotives from SEMTA

This was it? http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?20030 ... 005712.jpg

I believe it is owned by the Central New England, not sure if they use it regularly and if it runs

Also, FYI, Central New England also runs ex MBTA GP-9 # 1922

Thank you very much for the information. My guess after seeing it is that it is not operating. It was sitting in exactly the same spot as the photo posted had it in.

Dave, I knew you would get a better bit of information on it, you are very informative. At least I took a stab at it :P

I too have noticed this engine, # 905. I have been looking at this engine every time I go down from Boston to New York about every 3 months. I believe it ran about three years ago when it was on the other end of the Conecticut market, and it was not rusted over then. It is definately still painted with MBTA on the side but with some fading. I have found this engine in a photo in it SEMTA colors with one other GP9s. donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr0103/sem905.jpg

I just bought an Athearn HO Scale model of this engine (with MBTA markings) last weekend at a train show. Any idea if it's still in the spot mentioned above (the last post seems to be from 2008). Anyone know the fate of this one?

Last I knew it was moved to the end of line in Bloomfield/Windsor.
