Yeah, I took a look at it on Google maps recently. I doubt I'll still be in the area by the time it gets rebuilt, but I'll keep my eyes open while I'm still living near Hawley!

Got this pic of a Russell snowplow in Honesdale a couple of years ago. Got one hit on an Internet search that said it is ex BAR and is owned by the Wayne County Historical Society. The Society never answered my mailed request for more info. Can anyone confirm or expand on its ownership and lineage?

Thanks,

John

The March 2008 issue of Trains magazine has a 2 page pic of a passenger train from last year.

Yes, ex BAR (#453 or 455 IIRC), bought by Lackawaxen & Stourbridge sometime after they took over the line in 1976.

That is the ex-BAR 453 plow. I remember it well. I was wondering what happened to it.

I was the D&H Track Supervisor in Oneonta in July, 1972, when Walter Rich wanted to buy the plow from the BAR. I was looking for a good reason to take a week's vacation and travel somewhere, so I went to Maine to see the plow and check it out for movement over the D&H. It was a great vacation, because in the process I got to ride the annual BAR inspection train over the entire railroad for four days.

As you can see, the plow moved west, to the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley RR when that was the only operating property of the Delaware Otsego Corp.

As a side benefit, while I was in Maine I was offered a position with Dumaines (who owned the BAR) on their Pittsburg and Shawmut in Brookville, PA. I accepted, and that is where I met the girl I married, so I think I still have some interest in said Plow :-> It was a good deal all the way around.

Chief-

Great story. I wonder though, did you look at TWO plows on the BAR? Because in 1972, DO did not operate the LASB yet, but there is a SECOND ax BAR plow that was (and remains) on the CACV. I -think- that the CACV one was the 453 and this one, the lASB one, was the0 455? Perhaps both plows were on the CACV from 1972 and this one moved to the LASB later? I was always under the impression the two were bought together, but also was under the impression the LASB one was bough specifically for the LASB... which didn't exist until 1976.

Just wondering if your experiences might clarify all of thsi further.

I just saw that the Stourbridge line is planning a railfan day with trips to Lackawaxen on 9/20. They will also be running their fall foliage trips to Lackawaxen.

The Stourbridge Line will be acquiring this former MEC locomotive,
and a "couple" of former LI coaches that are *AT* (key word) East
Penn Railway, at Topton, PA. The Locomotive will be coming from a
private owner, I do not know what coaches are being purchased. What
operating condition the locomotive is in, I do not know.

This equipment, will need to be shipped on Norfolk Southern, I would
assume via NS Local H47, photographed here by Alex Berisha, on 1/22/08
http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPictur ... id=1026287
to Allentown, PA then to Binghamton, NY.

Then it will be ADDED to the NYGL equipment for the special train
down to Port Jervis. SO, if this equipment does not arrive NYSW by
Saturday AT THE LATEST, the special will be postponed until it does
arrive. Let's hope it doesn't take forever!!!!
