I live close to the NS mainline between knoxville, tn and loudon, tn. Very frequently I see coal trains heading out of knoxville with 3 units on the head end and 2 on the rear. The head end has a crew in it but the rear end doesn't.
Question--are these rear end units remote powered,(i never see a crew in them) or are they there to eliminate switching at the destination etc....
