By using "bahn" as a search term on Google news, I just encountered the (postponed, but now definite) opening of a Mini-U-Bahn in Linz, Austria, tomorrow, August 31, 2004. At 87 million euros for 1935 meters, I wonder whether it is cheaper or more expensive than the construction nowadays from Newark Penn to Newark (DL&W) Broad Street. Yes, it seems to use low platforms, but not PCC's.

That Linz distance is about 1.1 miles, I think. For 87million Euro (about $105mn), NJT couldn't hire an engineering firm to draw up plans.

The distance from Penn Station to Broad Street / DL&W is about a mile, according to mapquest. Raymond Plaza west to mccarter highway to lombardy street to broad street to the station
