I am wondering what kind of impact did the convention have on crew assignments. I noticed some changes to the regular crews, but with the suffling/cancellation of some trains, I can imagine that the crews were impacted. Did NJT make temporary job (re-)assignments to cover the changes?

I overheard one guy who usually worked a mid-day train to Mount Olive that they wanted him to work on a protect job in Spring Valley. The guy didn't seem to like this very much as it is not quite in his kneck of the woods. So, there indeed does seem to be some changes as a result.
