Question about the heritage of this unit.
I have her listed as:

NYSW 2302 - Ex-BDLX 2208 - P&W 2208 - nee CR 2796.

(I also saw a reference on-line that said this unit is CR 2794)

either way, CR 2794 or CR 2796, the trucks dont match..
the current NYSW 2302 has the FB2 trucks:
http://98flairside.rrpicturearchives.ne ... ?id=688738

While the Conrail units have the traditional AAR-B trucks:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... x?id=11996

Is this unit really CR 2796 and the trucks were swapped-out and changed at some point? or is the heritage info incorrect?

thanks,
Scot

the trucks were just swapped out, all of the U23B's which the P&W aquired via Conrail were equiped with FB2's when delivered to P&W.

thanks Bryan!
interesting..

why were they swapped?
the AAR truck is probably the single most common diesel truck of all time,
cant imagine there was anything wrong with the trucks on the Conrail U-boats..so why the switch?

Can you say "bounce-bounce-bounce-bounce".................. :P The worst riding truck, in road service, with two axles. Just my opine though.

The FB truck is no Blomberg either. When I worked for BNSF, I hated the ATSF 500 series B40-8W. They were very rough riding. There are more parts in the AAR truck. The inside brake shoes are hard to change.

Over on the NYSW Yahoo forum they are saying BDLX 2209 is going to the M&E, not 2208.

2209 is not now, and has not been, owned by the NYSW.

2207 and 2208 are now on the NYSW roster as 2304 and 2302.

2209 is sitting on the NS interchange track in PC yard.

Over at amtrak, I hear they hate the FB truck that rides under the B32-8 (the freighter, not the dual-mode gennie). I rarely see them on the road anymore, they're typically used for banging cars around 14th street. It would not surprise me that crews in higher-speed service such as intermodal have the same reaction to these trucks.
