Metro wants to increase the maximum speed for trains to 75 miles per hour in many parts of the system. The transit agency’s leaders said the plan will save riders time and save as much as $2.3 million a year in Metro’s budget.

At a meeting Thursday, Metro officials told their board of directors they plan to increase train speeds starting this summer, with the Red and Silver lines seeing the biggest change.

That 65-mph limit on Phase II is coming back to bite them in the rear, eh. Regardless, we'll see if the drivers operate anywhere near these speeds. So many seem to have trouble staying at 55 mph. Cannot wait for ATO.

They’ve got a few unpublished problems regarding ATO besides just track equipment, if it gets done on schedule I’ll eat my hat.

Nice to see they’re at least trying to bring the travel time down so that it doesn’t take an age to get to Dulles
