G16 went on the ground sometime this morning due to a washout:

The tank cars are apparently leaking asphalt into the bog there, but especially scary was this picture, thankfully the crew was OK with minor injuries:

Units involved were 2257/2262/2279.

Article in BDN states 3 engines and 6 cars. They stated that crews were making a road through the tress to allow eqipment to access the wreck area. One tanker experienced a leak but DEP was not overly concerned. Another tanker contained Carbon Dioxide. Article doesn't state destination or direct, North or South bound.

Looks like they were headed north back to Brownville Jct; the bog is to the west of the track there.

I guess this may get CSX to jump on the KEAG line a little quicker. Looks like it will be a long time before they get everything cleaned up and back together again. Glad the crew is OK. Some ansty pictures about the wreck on Facebook.

If CP dedicates some of their extensive resources, they could have the line reopened in just a few days. This is not the first time they’ve had a major derailment in the middle of the woods. Given that this is a secondary line, it remains to be seen how quickly CP moves to clean things up

Two six packs were sent down to retrieve the movable cars last night, and it looked from a video posted to the Eastern CP group that quite a recovery crew was on site.

Two sidewinders have moved everything to the side, and four excavators are repairing the RoW, with material being brought in. Two prefab panels have been brought in on either side for quick install. Track may be open tonight or tomorrow.

Good to see CP moving fast to repair the right of way. I was sure they could do it with their resources.

The locomotives may have suffered significant damage from water, mud and impacts. Those could take much longer to repair. Hopefully CP has some spare 4 axle power to ship east to BVJ to handle the searsport trains
