The Hicksville Team Yard

Anybody know when the Hicksville team yard was built, and who it's best customers were, during the LIRR and then NYA years? During the LIRR years, were any power based there, and freight jobs originate from there, headed eastbound or westbound? Thank you!

RF-44 pops into my foggy brain as to a freight job originating at HN Team. I'm not sure.

1958-1960 sounds right.

Steve would probably know this better. One of the LIST calendars has it being built on the back cover maybe like the early 50’s(1952). Said it was part of an employee publication that had a section “guess where we are” maybe an early 2000’s LI SUNRISE TRAIL calendar...

Years ago the LIRR's employee magazine, The Long Islander, featured a segment on railroad locations whereby the reader was called upon to figure out "where are we?" Such is the situation here, where the humble beginnings of Hicksville's (West John St.) freight yard are in evidence. Hello Guys, In the 70s and 80s there were 2 freight jobs there. Rf44 and Rf64. thanks Frank And Cindy

Passed by there on a Penn-bound train last Thursday. The track on the east side of the yard had a long cut of Herzog hoppers. An E-15 was on the center track, idling, and two more E-15s sandwiched several LIRR hoppers outside the yard by the Charlotte Ave. overpass.

It seems LIRR has basically taken the yard back for third track project support. I believe NYA was given exclusive use of the team yard for agreeing to the moratorium on not running freight on the Garden Mitchell secondary in 2001. It amazes me that a county of 1.5 million people doesn’t have a single freight costumer in its borders.
