Wrong! The term "Brakeman" is still used at NJT (as well as Amtrak).
Newbies at NJT are hired as TC's (Ticket Collectors)! Eventually they move up to AC.
On a Transit train you will hear the Conductor & Rear Brake on the radio often. The "Rear Brake" is the brakeman working the rear of the train. He/She controls the exterior doors and gives the engineer the 2 on the buzzer when all station work has been completed. The Conductor gives the engineer verbal instruction to move the train once the engineer has the 2 from the brake.
