Did a little railfanning today around the Kingston area during the midday and here's what I saw:
Q-434 - CSX ES40DC/DME SD40-2 / CSX SD40-2 /LTEX SD40-2 / FURX GP38-2 (in NS paint scheme) - 604 axle count!!!
Q-008 - CSX AC40CW/ CSX AC60CW / 8-40CW (all units in YN2 paint scheme)
Q-438 - CSX ES40AC /CSX ES40AC
Q-409 - CSX ES40AC / CSX 8-40CW
Q-268 - CSX SD40-3 /CSX 8-40CW / CSX 8-40CW
K-060 - CSX ES40AC / BNSF SD70MAC /CSX 8-40CW

Would have stayed out longer but the Q409 ran into a large boulder that fell onto the tracks around milepost 70. All trains were coming to a stop in the area and a bunch were recrewed in Milton and Esopus. As of 2000 hours everything is back running. Just heard on the scanner a s/b Q703 and a N/B ethanol train going through the area....

Waldwick thanks for the list.... I wish I could have had stayed out longer and thanks for the corrections to some of my list. I forgot to grab a paper and pen and was going off my head when I got home. I also was looking for the second train set for the Kingston local C712 and was wondering were it was. I guess they must have been working or tied down further south. The C711 had 2634 and a 6200 series GP40-2. Also, just a heads up there seems to be a Sperry car (doodlebug) making its way south. Was tied down yesterday in front of the Kingston yard office.

Today 10/20/14, went over and checked out the river line between CP69 and CP106...

Q-161 7530 / 5219
Kingston Yard power C711 had 6124 (GP38-2s) and 2623 (GP38-2)
*Also of note, HLCX 4275 was located on the south end of the yard. Unit is a GP40-2 w/o dynamic brakes. Originally built for Boston and Maine. Looking it up this unit seems to be leased out to CSX and was on last weeks Y311 serving the Syracuse, NY area.
Q-010 5436 / 865
Q-268 7653 / 455
At CP106 (Alsen) there was an outlawed Q400 series on the siding. Engines were CSX 8561 / 7630 / 5351 / 7641 / 2485.
Q-438 5369 / 5333 / 5302 / 5397 / 6160 / 4408
Q-434 7594 / 8033 / 7346

Just caught report on Eyewitness News 7 concerning the conditions of 3 bridges on the River Line. One was in Newburg and the others looked like they were down toward Iona Island. Crumbling concrete, rusted steel, one beam shored up with a railroad tie rusted or missing bolts. Concern expressed about crude oil trains and safety. Sen. Schumer weighing in with call for more inspectors. They interviewed bridge engineer from CUNY and CSX safety official.

Muckracking. Didn't they completely rebuild the iona trestles many years ago?

Schumer needs a sock stuffed in his mouth.

Does not appear to be Iona Island trestle, seems to be two very short bridges over inlets. Issue seems to be foundation deterioration to point of steel support giving way. Concrete has all but crumbled away on one of them.

Waldwick, didn't think you railfanned as far up as Newburgh. One question for you... The local that went onto the Newburgh Industrial, did it pick up/drop off a car at the entrance to the industrial track or did it go up and serve Ray's railroad materials. Reason I ask is I saw last year they put additional siding tracks up there however haven't really heard the local hit the industrial track. I did hear it that day on the scanner and was just wondering. Once again thanks for posting, sounds like you saw some good trains...

Every so often, although more so lately, ive been moving around more. I did 2 trips to Selkirk in early Dec and Nov. It went right up the industrial, to Ray's. I saw many lol. I will post when I get back from trips to the River Line here

Got out this morning and was able to spend a hour or two between Milton and Kingston. Here is the list:
1- Northbound Q400 series tied down in Milton, awaiting a recrew, CSX 7897, CSX 8570, UP 5039, UP 4908
2- Q-008 CSX 5231, CSX 7597, CSX 7600, CSX 8584
3- Q-702 CSX 5378, CSX 8606
4- Q-003 CSX 4719 CSX 585, CSX 8620, CSX 7593
5- Q-161 UP 7653, CSX 8823
Kingston Yard Power was a pair of GP38-2 and a GP40-2 with road slug unit. Also to note, anyone railfanning near Newburgh, there was 4 cars to be delivered to Rays transportation on the Newburgh Industrial track. 3 centerbeam cars with new ties and a scrap container gondola. I would assume they'll take a trip down in the next day or so....
