I'm new to this forum and to NJ. I've heard that Bound Brook is one of the better places to watch freight action. Has anyone ever compiled a time table re: freight movements through Bound Brook, or have a copy of an employee time table? Thanks in advance

Oh, no, not again..... :-)
See: http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... k#p1084072

There is no 'specific schedule'; NS 21M goes west between 0600 and 1000 hours, CSX Q300 comes east between 0800 and 1200 hours, etc.
Get there at 0700 and bring a decent radio with you; you should see at least half a dozen movements by noon, close to a dozen trains by 1500 hours....

Thanks. Since I'll have my 4 y.o. grandson in hand, I'll opt for the PM session

We finally got to Bound Brook a few Saturdays back. Arrived at 10:15 AM and hit the jackpot. A WB CSX freight was in the hole, smack dab in front of the station, waiting for an EB NS freight. When the NS freight cleared, the CSX started its trip west. Twenty minutes later an EB "garbage" train to Selkirk passed. Too much excitement for a 4 y.o. He especially loved the double-headed diesels. As a 4 y.o., he's at that stage where body functions are important. Each time the CSX engine adjusted the air brakes, he broke into paroxysms of childish laughter. As we drove away, I asked him what was so funny. He replied quite simply, "that train had the farts!" Kids!

I'm really tempted to present an off-color joke about WOOD interlocking on NJT, but I shall refrain from doing so.....

Glad you guys had a good day, it's never too early to get the "young'uns" started; I suspect that the noises you heard were from the air-dryer system, designed to remove moisture from the air brake lines, found on all locomotives and over the road trucks. I never thought if it as 'farts', but sure will from this day on........ :-)
