Do railroads ever lose railcars??

On the D&H, the yardmasters and trainmasters had a "lost track" in their yard track list for the terminal. This is where a missing car was placed in the computer world. We had a female trainmaster who was short in the upper floors. She was out in the yard asking the switchmen where the lost track was.

Oh, that is classic!

My late father related to me a story years ago about a boxcar loaded with WWII jeeps being found years and years later on
a long abandoned spur somewhere in southern Indiana. Supposedly jeeps in excellent condition covered with cosmoline.
