The boundary between Amtrak (CUS) and Metra (PCC&StL/CMStP&P) is right at Canal Street. In pre-Amtrak days there were position light signals on the North Joint Approach. Lake Street Tower was designed to contol crossovers at Union Street and Morgan Street, but they were handled by switch tenders before the Milwaukee started handling them as part of its CTC island controlled from tower A-2. Mileposts from Western to Canal were numbered for the PCC&St.L from Columbus Ohio at one time.
