Going thru rrpicturearchies.com i saw pics of 3638 and 3630. I found another site that had the history of the sd45/f45's. How come nysw got rid of almost all the 3600 series engines to MRL or whoever? Where they in bad shape? Or just financial reasons?

At the time they were being used in regular train service, but the new B-40s and lots of run through power were being used on the stack trains. They may not have been needed and the ones in poorer condition were sold off.

I have heard the 45's are fuel hogs too, but fuel prices were not all that bad in the early to mid 90s.

If memory serves, at the time the SD45's/F45 were sold off to MRL, there was a downturn in business on all railroads. In late 1993, NYSW SD45's 3620, 3622, 3624, 3626, 3630, 3632, 6366(3616), 6515(3628), and F45 3638 were sent to Livingston Rebuild Center in Montana...
