Greetings:

For those of you who might be interested, construction on the new West Haven train station and transportation hub has begun, and many more additions are expected to the site.

Thanks Amy. That means that we have three brand new Metro-North stations under construction simultaneously where none existed before.

Unprecedented!

So would the three be:

Yankee Stadium
Black Rock (Fairfield Metro)
W. Haven?

I am glad that the people of West Haven are getting their own Metro-North station. It is an awfully long gap between stations out there.

My only qualm about the new station is that it will ruin the time-honored rhythmic tradition of the way conductors pronounce the last three stations when announcing the route at Grand Central Terminal. There is a poetic, sing-song quality of the reading of the last three stops, bordering on iambic pentameter. Some conductors play it up, others don't.

STRAT-ford, MIL-ford AND new HAVE-n

Of course, the introduction of the M-8 may end this tradition before the West Haven station is completed. At this point, who knows which will happen first.

What is new with the train station, well in addition to condo's and some small offices, I believe that teh University of New Haven will be opening on site or very close to it a law school and possibly a "CSI" school run by Dr. Henry Lee

Groan!! The last great part of running trains on the NH Line was that looooooooong run from Milford to NH. Just remember, every additional stop makes the trips to and from New Haven that much loooooooonger!!!

God forbid we should add stops to let more people ride....

Hey, I have a great idea - let's not stop anywhere - then crews will get a fantastic long run between stations!

We already do that!! Haven't you ever heard of "Deadheads"? I love running them more than the revenue trains as the only passengers who bug you are the cockroaches!!!

I for one am rooting for West Haven AND Orange. That means all the West Havenites and Orangeites will go to their own stations and give their cushy parking sopts to people who actually LIVE in Milford.

Dutch - when they start making it one long platform like Montclair....

The nice thing is NJT still tends to use a good amount of Arrows on the line and the WORMS trains run express through there. but, there's a reason why everyone on the NJT forum jokes about that line being one long station.

I guess worst case, MN can break the NH line out into another tier of service - don't they basically split it into North of Stamford / South of Stamford right now?
