So because you want a railfan window, the public and employees should have to sweat out summers in hot cars with AC not properly working and have things held together with glue and bubble gum as the equipment begins to break down more and more frequently. You don't think that an investment in new rolling stock is worthwhile? Get a grip on yourself.

1. Metro-North is not in business to cater to railfans.

2. If you truly believe that the M1s were capable of providing years more of reliable service, you're delusional, and you clearly haven't been enduring the poor service of the last few winters. While the M1s would have kept going with lots of maintenance, they aren't as reliable as customers have a right to expect, and they weren't worth keeping running. Replacing them was the right decision.

If watching out the head end is so important, apply for a job with the railroad and hope someday you have what it takes to be a locomotive engineer. :-)
