Was a WP-DRGW-MP merger ever considered?

The three roads were natural extensions of each other, and had a common heritage through George Gould. Was a merger between the three (akin to Burlington Northern, for example) ever considered? Or did the fact that they "split ways" pretty early on and developed rather different operating procedures make such a merger too impractical?
