The first FLX Drive (battery) unit was built in Erie. Later successfully tested on BNSF heavy train + grade routes out west. That first beta unit saved 11 percent on fuel — not stunning, but very promising. It was sent to Australia’s iron rage for additional heavy testing.

The second-gen models is being created/built and is expected too deliver 30 percent fuel reduction. That’s the kind of juice needed to drive adoption.

Look for initial testing on CSX on grades like Sandpatch and then later on the BPRR.
