If we focus on the 4 decades of the 1960 thru 2000 era, what beers were on the menu in the LIRR bar cars and parlor cars?

I think I may have had a Rheingold onboard AMAGANSETT on the Shelter Island Express early/mid 70s and maybe a premium beer on a Cannonball parlor around the same time. A Midshipman’s pay leaves limited room for luxuries.

I do recall there were no upstate NY brews, such as Genesee or Utica Club, on the LIRR bar menu, nor were these on the Amtrak Empire Service bar menu. However, you could get a genuine Canadian beer on the Adirondack north of ALB when the D&H had a strong role in the train 1974-1977.

Labatt's Blue and Molson Canadian- always good, while Molson Golden is......okay. Best drank whilst one is watching hockey, either in person or on TV.

Most of the carts at Penn and Hunters Point Avenue were adorned by the infamous Budweiser label. I still hear passengers say how much they miss the MTA LIRR/Metro North carts and in Metro North’s case bar cars. The last LIRR bar cars were with the the single level coaches? I know this a public forum, but did LIRR bartenders transfer into other crafts by chance?

During 1973 and 1974, we sold Budweiser and Schaefer with Michelob as the "higher end" choice.

Bud and Schaefer were $ .50. Dont recall the price of Michelob. . . Maybe $ .85. . . but I never sold much of it and tips were better on the other 2. Many patrons would give you a buck and say keep the change. So you made $ .50 on each beer. Most would give you a quarter tip on each beer. With Michelob you only made $ .15, so none of the bar guys pushed that item. . . Courtesy of Dave Keller
