I'm curious what the Pre-Amtrak US-Canada trains were like.

My great grandmother who passed away in 2005 at the age of 95 told me the TH&B service between Buffalo Central Terminal and Toronto was pretty quick; her only comment was that Canadian customs during the interwar years were paranoid about "anarchists" entering the country.

I had to go from Poughkeepsie, NY to Montreal and on to Quebec in 1965. It was a midnight departure and I was in coach. All I can remember is that the train was full, customs was done on the train as it moved northward, and a light breakfast was available in the lounge section of one of the sleepers.
