I forgot to mention I took some photos at Juntion City Mining. It was hard, but I managed to out run the police with my camera around my neck. (JUST KIDDING) I did not realize these locomotives were there though. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=117055

If you can provide me with a list of the road number series for this locomotive i will look at my list of units at RMDI ( dated 12/04 ). I have done contract work for Ron at his shop on a trackmobile and i picked up a list of all the road numbers of what he has stored there.

Only 10 ever built.

Conrail 6610-6619.

Im having trouble finding accurate NS/CSX split info for the C32-8's.
I have found several different rosters/lists on-line, some say all 10 went to NS, others say all 10 went to CSX, and still others say they were split up!
weird..

I think its clear they were split..
we have evidence of some running with NS, and others with CSX after the Conrail split..

anyone have accurate NS/CSX split info?

From RailPace back when the split happened.Six to NS four to CSX.The CSX #'s are Conrail 6610,6612,6617,6618 New CSX #'s 7476-7479.Dosen't say NS's new #'s though I think they where 8200's maybe.

originally when Conrail was splitup CSX recieved 4 C32-8's and NS 6. However when the lease expired on them shortly after the splitup, CSX returned these 4 units to GE who then leased them to the NS, thus in the end NS did end up with all 10 units.

Here are all the photos Adam took that show the C32-8's..
at the time he didnt know they were anything special, so he didnt focus on them!

I just read on another forum that they might be scrapped even now..
but the person from RMDI didnt seem absoultely sure which engines were which.
so they might still be there, but they might not.. :(

tick tick tick..(thats time ticking!)

used to see them fairly often on the Southern Tier main.
I was in highschool in the mid 80's..used to ride my 10-speed bike to the tracks in Waverly, and the RR museum in Sayre all the time!

Brings back some good memories, running those ugly, hump-backed beasts, up and down the River Line. The worst part of all, was the doors, obviously designed by a person only five foot tall. (the inside joke on Conrail, was these were designed, by the Japanese, to torture us hoggers) Those were like climbing through the doors on a submarine. Pretty decent pullers, by GE standards, I often wondered why there were only ten built, as they performed well, once they got rolling, over ten miles per hour. Certainly more to look at, than a C-39-8, or those horrible Dash-7's. Thanks for sharing, Scot........ :-D

The C32-8 was in General Electric's line up, but nobody bought any. The Norfolk Southern units were probably numbered 8460-65. Later when NS got CSX's the four were renumbered 8466-8469. Is just the door into the cab 5 feet or is the whole cab about 5 feet tall?

The Brazil unit is likely ex JCMX 8466/NS 8466 nee CR 6616. Progress Rail has been selling old GE's to South America lately and may well have shipped out the former Junction City Mining unit.

NS initially renumbered the 6 they got at the split as 8543-8548 (8548 ex CR 6619 was the only one in blue paint having been rebuilt after a wreck and it was one of 2 with later Dash 8 cabs). When they got CSX's 4 (numbered as 7476-7479) they renumbered all 10 in original order as 8460-8469. NS 8462 (CR 6612) is one of the survivors at RMDI as it is the one pictured with the later style cab.
