Did the Capitol Ltd. continue to operate with a dome all the way to the final pre-Amtrak run in 1971? And if not, when did it stop?

Your post of Sept. 9, 2012 asked that question and received a number of answers, none conclusive. However, on Apr. 12, 2013, mmi16 referred to a Joe Welsh publication which should have the answer if you can find a copy.

Yes and no - how's that for an answer. Kalmbach's "Journey to Amtrak" shows a "commemorative" 4-29-71 Cap with two domes, and a regular 4-25-71 train sans-domes. So, was the 4-25 an anomaly or was the 4-29 special enough to warrant domes? (see page 29 if you have a copy).

4/29 was the last B&O Capitol Limited to depart Chicago. Thereafter Amtrak operated any non-commuter passenger operations on B&O.
