It buries the lead. The main news is Bourne is considering joining the MBTA district.

I saw that they decided to put the new platform on hold because of all of the equipment issues the MBTA is having. No word yet on the new tracking though.

Interesting! NETransit shows 2013 as accepted/north, but 2033 as unaccepted. I wonder if the four Rotems will be the "final four" unaccepted units (816, 825, 1821,1824), and this will count as part of their testing? That set was on the Valley Track last week, but as of yesterday it was replaced there with a set that included a few of the 1700s back from overhaul.

You are correct on the coach numbers. Don't hold me to the engine numbers though.

The Cape Flyer equipment was due to head south last night on the Readville Switcher from
BET.

The set of the Valley is capped with the 1032.

Just saw it and 2033 was leading South and 2013 was facing North. Here are pictures:

I'm surprised to see them add a stop in Brockton for this year but not in Sandwich or West Barnstable. Supposedly they wanted to shorten the travel time to Hyannis, but what benefit does Brockton give? I realized that unless you go down to the Cape on a Friday night and come back on a weekday you can't do a two-seat ride from say, Bridgewater to Hyannis. Are there that many people who would drive to Brockton instead of Braintree or Middleboro?

There is no parking at the downtown Brockton station - Braintree and Middleborough are the park-and-rides for the service this year. But Brockton is huge - 93,000 residents - and it's the center of a quite successful local bus network.

Yeah...BAT may be the best non-MBTA regional bus district in the state. Well-organized system with excellent geographical coverage, all routes tying in downtown at the commuter rail station. Takes Charlie Cards. And it runs with good headways. That's a non-trivial amount of ridership the Flyer can tap by doing an intermediate stop there. Good move on their part.

There are 250+ parking spaces there at the station at the BAT-run lot.

Note: Brockton Fair runs July 2-12 and packs huge crowds into the city, jamming up Route 24 for miles around Exit 17 and sending BAT on overdrive with fattened route schedules. 4th of July weekend and weekend of 7/10-7/12 you can expect a noticeable ridership spike at Brockton station from people hitting both the Cape and the Fair in the same weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if they had the Fair dates circled on the calendar when plotting this infill stop.

Is the southbound schedule,at 2h30 faster than it was in 2013 (when it was 2h38 with fewer stops) just because they've chosen a later, less-congested slot? It looks like the 10 minutes of time savings is all from Boston to Middleboro. Or has the Boston-Middleboro track been upgraded? Or are the HSPs speeding things up?

There is a very active group on Facebook called "Cape Cod Rail Fans", as many readers of this thread already know. This group currently has 173 members and can be found on this link:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1376226735975583/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Currently the group is looking at a large selection of images (see the sample images below) of the ongoing track work in the Hyannis yard.

To access the link you (a) must have an account on Facebook, and (b) ask for permission to join the group, which as granted by the group administrator.

I'm mentioning this here as a courtesy for readers of this railroad.net thread who may wonder what has happened to most of the discussion about the CapeFlyer -- in my view it has moved to the Cape Cod Rail Fans forum on Facebook.

Searching for stuff on Facebook is crappy. Create new topic? Hahahahaha. Want to find that interesting post from last year? Good luck.

Last year, the Cape Flyer was train 021 extended to Hyannis. This year it is its own train, not making every stop like 021 does.
