Maryland’s commuter rail passengers will soon be able to catch trains more easily at Union Station after the state builds a $21.3 million train storage facility approved recently, state officials said.
The three new tracks, which are scheduled to open by 2014, will hold Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) trains stored at the station during mid-day layovers, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

A problem that VRE has parking at Ivy City, is that there is not enough parking spots for VRE to expand its train sets, which is why they only have 2 8 car train sets parked there. They are looking for more parking, which is at a premium. VRE has built two tracks just north of its L'Enfant Plaza station, but currently isn't storing trains there. They need to install another switch/signal.
