Granted I don't know if you work for the RR in any capacity, but if you don't, it does seem odd to me that they'd release that info to just anyone.

That said, it probably would not be cost effective to rebuild it as an SD45 at this point - but to convert it over to an SD40, it aught to be no different than any other core, barring some kind of structural issues. Look at the cores M-K built into SD40-2Rs for Southern Pacific years ago - they used about everything but F45s/FP45s, and some of them were real junk when they rolled in.

Dont work for the railroad at all. I was up front in telling them that im interested in knowing what the dispostion is of this particular locomotive and so are a few others from the yahoo message boards. Took a few days but they responded back.

Add the 1800, 1802, 2302 and 116 as OOS in Binghamton. Whether or not they are stored serviceable or not, I will try to determine, but as the pics indicate, the 1800's have their stacks capped.

3042 is in Utica as of this date. Unit is black with NS markings starting to peek out and NYSW 3042 in white on the cab side.

For that matter, 3040 appeared to be in service as of the 17th, seen with cars near the turntable just far enough back from the road so as not to trigger the crossing protection (perhaps crew had gone for coffee at the Dunkin Donuts just south of the crossing). No other power was apparent, and it was gone when I returned through later that evening. Did it break down in the last week or so?

3040's turbocharger is failing. It is scheduled for replacement next week. 2304 will become the "backup" unit for Utica.

A MAN Century is on a daily lease to cover for the 3040.

Noted in the NYS railfan board, but the 3612 made a detour towards Watertown this afternoon. Odds are it's headed to Utica or elsewhere, CSX has taken to taking cars out of Dewitt and setting them out on sidings on this line to get them out of the way, then bring them back later.
