Greater potential for Saint John business growth.

the politics would nonetheless look terrible funding US side work. But they can get to same place by more heavily subsidizing Canada side work, thereby freeing more Irving cash that Irving can use on its US property

I'm thinking you'll see some CSX power come to Maine after June 1st to show new ownership.

They should probably worry about fixing the tracks to get there first. The Canadian government isn't going to spend money on US infrastructure, that one doesn't even begin to make sense.

Most of EMRY is now 40MPh….. that was the point of the Maine Regional Rail project back a few years ago…

The first sign of CSX power will probably be on 426/427 to and from Rigby, which was done in the past and makes a lot of sense.

Is any infrastructure upgrade to PAR east of Littleton MA to Rigby needed to accommodate DPU operations once CSX power starts to run through on Q426/Q427? Perhaps just training of crews? Or will former ST crews need to be absorbed by CSX and its labor agreements first?

The route is not optimized for DPU, I don't think you'll see it.

That said, they will most certainly move to CSX operating rules before trying to implement something like that.

Can you expand on this, and offer any insights on what it would take to implement DPU ops on the line to Portland?

Eliminating most of the sharp curves through places like Worcester, Ayer, North Chelmsford, Lowell, Lowell Jct, Lawrence.... Those are the ones that come to mind first - and the ones that can't be eliminated without completely rebuilding the route and purchasing a lot of land through already built-up places...

I guess you could call this the first significant change, don't know when this happened but the Pan Am website has changed to reflect the takeover with links to the CSX website and some other changes -heading is now "CSX/ Pan AM Railways" . http://www.panamrailways.com/

Never saw this before, a lineup of the Pan Am RR police vehicles-- http://www.panamrailways.com/railroad-police

I wasn't aware that sharp curves were a dealbreaker for DPU; BNSF and UP use DPUs on Cajon Pass, which has some pretty dramatic curves, and I've seen NS DPUs on Horseshoe Curve.

Here's a video of a CSX DPU train on a sharp curve on the old L&N:

Are there any details on the scope and timeline of the Rigby rebuild? Would the addition of an intermodal ramp and related facilities require a planning application with the city of South Portland?

Not sure about Rigby but have heard that their top priority will be the Worcester main.

EMR is primarily still 25 and 30. In that grant project, they were supposed to get ribbon rail but that has yet to happen.
