While not all one hundred are still operating and they now look anything from almost new to trashy and everything in bewteeen they are still going. Some of them are now old enough to drink.

I remember when the Oakways were new. About that time, I recall seeing pictures of four unit sets ... on then-BN, iirc. I've searched the net some, but can't seem to find any such pictures now. I'd appreciate a few links, if you have them ...

I always thought they were some of the coolest looking locos out there.

What kind of agreement did/does BN and now BNSF have with Oakway? I never understood that - are they leased to BNSF, or does BNSF pay just for the horsepower hours or something else? It just seems that if they are leased, that the end has to be coming soon - Ive heard of 15 and 20 year leases, but this is a 25 year?

How many out of the 100 are still running and in service?
