In this thread you can show off some of your best work. Feel free to tell any interseting stories that go along with them. I'll Go first.

This is a shot of the Central Illinois Railroad Company's 1206. This picture was taken on its debut. Here it was running uphill in run 8 with a cut of 10 cars into BNSF's western avenue yard. She does a mighty good impression of an alco.

This is a shot of a restaurant called Vonachen's Old Place. It is located in a railroad themed shopping center in Peoria IL called Junction City. After some 40 years of serving customers in 2 vintage buissiness cars, the restaraunt closed in August of 2008. I believe a new restaraunt is setting up shop there now.

I took this photo from a parking garage on the north side of the city. This is my second most popular shot on FLickr, it portrays a southbound CTA Red Line train leaving Loyola.

This is one of my newer favorites. I call it Fallen Flag Switchers. It portrays an ex Illinois Central SW14 and an ex Conrail SW1500 running on the far southeastern side of Chicago. It was a pleasantly warm Sunday in February. I rode my bike down to the Chicago Rail Link compound to see if I could locate some of their old switchers resting on a Sunday Afternon. When I arrived there as just the usual chop nosed GP7's laying over at the shops. I got a nice shot of them, then decided to ride over to the Norfolk Southern interchange. While riding north toward 95th street, in the distance I saw too switchers coupled nose to nose roll by, I was 3 blocks away, and yelled out an obscenity when they passed. I high tailed after them. I sprited for 3 blocks on my track bike and made a right east after them. Six blocks later, I was only just ahead of them, I waited for traffic to clear and crossed the street. I threw my bike down, pulled out my camera and ran up the embankment, pushing through lots of brush. My feet lost grip on the loose ground several times, but I got up there just in time to shoot them going past. The black unit is an ex IC SW14 rebuilt from an SW9 in the 1970's CRL bought this unit from CN a few years back. The blue unit is an ex conrail sw1500. It went to CSX after conrail was split up, and was then sold to LLPX who is leasing it to Chicago Rail Link.

Alright, so lets see yours! :-D

Taken completely by chance (from a car) while waiting for the train in the foreground to clear.

I've been a railfan most of my 44 years, as well as photography buff once I got my Minolta 35mm SLR rig back in the early 1980's. I really enjoyed rail (and fire apparatus) photography. In the mid 1990's I went digital and was kind of turned off to photography. The digital photos were slick, when they came out good. Unfortunately at the time I couldn't afford the quality digital camera I should have been using. I really wanted a digital SLR but they were just too far out of my means. Well after a few years of ignoring the digital camera market I took another look and found the Nikon D-40. I bought one last week and have been in love with photography all over again. It came with a Nikon 18-55mm zoom lens and the day after I bought mine I picked up a Nikon 55-200mm zoom lens as well. I am extremely happy with this camera package and have spent most of this past week trackside.

Here's a link to just one day I spent at Iona Island, NY this past week:
