Andy Biron of GuilfordRailSightings has reported a derailment in Gardner. He posted a photo that shows an overturned auto rack car which appears to have slid into the side of a residential building.

Thursday 9:10AM, NECN had a live report from Gardner.
Showed R.J. Corman's crews working to re-rail the cars.
It was reported that one of the four cars had been
righted and removed and a second car had been righted.
South Main St, remains closed to traffic at the derailment.

On 02-21-2014/0700, the 4 derailed and now rerailed racks were just south of the Gardner Rte. 2A crossing. From the street, it appeared at least 1 was missing a drawbar. The Corman equipment was still there parked at and near the KC hall on Kraft Street. The were more racks, apparently waiting to go south, on PAS Main 2 at the Timpany Boulevard OHB.

As of 0630/02-24-2014, the 4 rerailed racks were still just south of Rte. 2A. Garner Yard was getting crowded with racks for the PW, and the PW was presumably getting crowded with racks and others for PAS.

Could the freight that normally is interchanged at Gardner be moved via the Worcester to Ayer line to the P&W at least temporarily?

The line has been reopened. Please see Norm Vigeant's 02-25 photo ( http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=214232" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). Per someone who lives near the scene, the make-up of the train resulted from an on-scene FRA official concerned with adequacy of braking power for the down-grade trip.
Worcester is not a PAR/PW interchange point except for lime and coal moves.

During a 03-15-2014/1055 drive-by, saw 3 worse-for-wear racks in the Worcester Yard along Rte. 146 S just after thr ramp from I-290 W.
