I have myself taken the Indian-Pacific, though I joined the train in Kalgoorlie, having taken the day train from Perth and stayed the night in a hotel.

Haven't made it to Western Australia yet, but definitely on my to do list. I wish they would have a more frequent service that would allow getting off in differnt cities for a day or so.
