Apparently, one train was stopped at a station outside Alexandria when it was rear-ended by another passenger train. Many fatalities. One train was from Port Said, the other from Cairo. Was it near a junction of the routes from the two originating cities?

According to Al Jazeera the crash was near Korshid station (from the pictures somewhere southeast of it towards Kafr-el-Dawar). It's nowhere near a junction - offhand the routes run together at Tanta about 100 km before getting anywhere near Alexandria. The track takes a couple turns before Korshid which would limit visibility ahead.
