Turns out, I guess somebody figured out who it was and I was asked to delete them to ensure the security of the operation. In the best interest of the base, I decided to comply

So are you not allowed to film them at all or can you just not post the pictures/footage?

I suppose it’s one thing if you just run into them once or twice… But being that I appeared to figure out their operations by seeing them numerous times, they basically decided enough was enough

Wow, that's somewhat alarming! Not sure of the legality, but I'm not willing to risk harassment or arrest for the sake of a train video so it makes me hesitant to try to capture any of the Earle movements. So, thanks for the heads up!

It's always been said that Earle frowned upon railfans tracking and/or recording their movements, but I have never heard of them tracking people down top tell them to stop. Seems a bit out of the ordinary, but I could be wrong

I can assume they are moving some sensitive cargo, or are preparing to do so, and don't want a public record of their operations like that. Makes sense.
Must be difficult to keep things under wraps when you run in not just some of the densest parts of the state, but the country too.

SO...big question is ...were u asked to delete the videos by the Navy, or just one of the self appointed, paranoid ppl here on the web.

Back about 2015 or so, we had a lot of military movements around here, and there was always someone with no affiliation to the military whatsoever, claiming that pasting pix of military trains was giving away military secrets to the enemy. Not so.

Twice I've gone on fan trips on the Earle RR. we went all over the place. I rode on one of the SW-8's when we were out on the pier. The MP's followed out train at all highway crossings too. The only restriction was that we had to be off the pier when a ship was coming in to dock.

Of course, everything can change just depending on who's in charge of the base at the time.

The movement of trains on the earle RR is hardly a secret. anyone flying over it can see it. There's no respricted airspace.
If it were me, Id ask the MP's following the trains if its ok to take pix for personal use. Id bet they are more concerned about railfans doing something dumb around the trains, than some enemy power.

It was an employee of the Navy, but not an MP. I suspect it was because the pictures and videos I posted from last week were getting somewhat popular, so they wanted the picture and videos gone before anybody else got any idea. Do I believe I have the right to share those videos to the public? Yes. Am I willing to test if I’m correct in that assumption, after being told they should be deleted? Absolutely not.

Was this US Navy employee directed by their superiors to talk to you about this, or was it "one of the self appointed, paranoid ppl here on the web" who just happens to work for the US Navy?

I'd imagine if there truly was a problem, you would have been contacted by MPs/law enforcement of some sort. Maybe this employee got wind that they were going to come visit you in a week if the videos were still up, and decided to give you a heads up.

I was afraid of that based on my video at Hockhockson, as admittedly I could have probably used better judgment. However, I researched various property line maps and was able to confirm that I was indeed within the property limits of Dorbrook Park the entire time I was there, never setting foot on Earle property; with that in mind, I don’t believe I broke any laws, but again, admittedly, not smart on my end in hindsight. Regardless, I think my time of seeing the Earle trains is over. It’s not worth the hassle; lesson learned.

I'd love to know who this "empliyee of the Navy" was. Did they see you in person, oe send u an email? Did they identify themselves? Any person acting in an official capacity for the Navy would identify themselves.

But no matter. Moving on...

I would bet it was someone from public affairs, they work directly with the command.

Just out of curiosity, did these rules on photography come out after 9/11? There's a video on YouTube of one of the fan trips and it looked like it was taken on Normandy Road somewhere, which is weird cause usually going down that means fines and/or jail time. The video is from the 1980s.
