Thanks george . he actually has covered most of the world , though some of it is dated , and probably secondhand information . but a great website all the same .

I am amazed at some of the fares for Britain he quotes. In my experience the actual fares are very much higher. You can only get his low fares by pounding the keyboard a lot and planning ahead.

I find Man in Seat 61 a great 'starter' place as to how to get from point A to point B. Then I go to either the DB, ItaliaRail or ÖBB websites and get the current train and price info. The hints on 61 are priceless for trans-Europe travel, however.
