07/19/05) DARIEN - An accident involving a train and a truck caused the morning rush for commuters to come to a screeching halt.
According to Metro-North, the train hit a truck at the Camp Avenue crossing in Darien, shutting down the New Canaan line. Officials say the driver of the truck pulled onto the track in order to back up into a flower shop parking lot. Another car then pulled behind the truck so the driver got out to ask the person to move. That's when the train struck.

Metro-North officials say no one was seriously injured. The train engineer was taken to Stamford Hospital for observation

Camp Ave was still shut down last night - there was crime scene tape around the grade crossing, and a Darien cruiser blocking the road. What a mess.

Any word on how the engineer is doing?

The cruiser was there because of a suspicious package on the train - NOT because of the accident.

why would an accident in Darien close the New Canaan branch? isn't darien past stamford (where the new canaan line veers north off of the new haven line?)

The N.C. Branch does indeed run through part of Darien. Have a look...
