last Friday - the 20th - I was at the transportation center (RR station et al) here in Poughkeepsie waiting for a bus. There iwas a layover between the city bus and the county LOOP busI brought my camera with me to maybe take some photos of the new Upper Landing Park that is now complete but not open to the public yet.I heard the sound of a gas powered carbide saw from down below street level.

I saw that MNRR MOW workers were replacing a section of rail on the 'historicaly accurate', for 1914,track 3. Of note, the track here in Poughkeepsie (at least at the station and rail yard) is bolted sectional rail and wood ties. I took advantage of this unique opportunity for a ralfan, and walked down to the track 3 platform to take some photos.

either a new MNRR employee and was wearing a T shirt of his former employer,or perhaps CSX was 'helping out' MNRR.
After all, CSX has a vetted interest in the condition of the track on the Hudson line, most especialy considering one of their trains recently derailed on this very rail line.

Track 3 is nothing more than a controlled siding with an MAS of 30MPH (hence the bolted rail) and wood ties in many cases are better than concrete ties.

As far as the the employee, he's Metro North. Probably never worked for CSX, just acquired shirt. Heck, even some of the management wear the apparel of foreign railroads.

Hey, It's probably worth noting that Google's most recent aerial photography of Poughkeepsie is from September 19th (the day before) and shows these same folks from above! Two of the three work trucks are sitting on track 5 as well. I noticed them a while ago and wondered what was up, but now I know!
